Meet the Partners of Turner Coulston
John Josephs
John is the partner in charge of Family Law and Motoring matters. He also deals with general litigation matters.
John also sits as a Deputy District Judge at various courts in the Midlands, hearing Civil and Family cases. There have been numerous changes in Family Law and more are on the way. One of the most pressing and difficult issues is that of pre-nuptial agreements which, until recently, have been largely unenforceable in England. A test case has recently been heard by the Supreme Court and judgment is expected shortly.
Northamptonshire was one of the "pilot" counties for the new breed of Speed Cameras which led to an "explosion" of action taken against motorists and John has acted in numerous cases including a the recent test case of Peter Gidden in the High Court in which it was held that unless a Notice of Intended Prosecution is received within the 14 day period, it is defective and of no effect. In this case the NIP had been sent shortly after a postal strike and had been delayed.
John is a keen Bridge player, having represented the County, and is an Observer with the Institute of Advanced Motorists training drivers to pass the Institute's advanced driving test. These skills come in useful when trying Road Traffic Accident cases!
John has been married for 37 years and has one daughter who is a barrister.
